KGYI is a towered airport with a 9,000-foot by 150-foot primary runway, instrument approaches including an ILS, automated weather observation, and extensive ramp space. The field has a distinctive aviation history. Today's North Texas Regional Airport occupies the former Perrin Air Force Base, which began as a World War II pilot-training field in 1941 and remained part of the nation's military aviation infrastructure until the base closed in 1971.
